Magical Tartan inspired moments at Glenburn Lodge

Today is Tartan Day and there is no better time to channel all things tartan for your wedding day. Whether you’re of Scottish decent and want traditional tartan to feature on your big day or just love everything Scottish and you are going for something a little more subtle, look no further for inspiration!

Everyone loves a Scottish wedding and here are a few fabulous ideas to add a touch of tartan to your big day:

Clothing
For a truly Scottish wedding, there has to be a touch of tartan. it can either be extravagant or subtle when it comes to wedding attire. The most traditional Scottish wedding outfit for men is, of course, the kilt alternatively if you want to make a statement wear a tartan suit.
Typically a groom’s, kilt or suite will be in the tartan of their clan, or in a colour that will fit the theme of the wedding. There are however more subtle accessories men can add like a tie or pocket square.

To compliment your groom’s outfit add a subtle touch of tartan to your wedding outfit such as a silk tartan garter or use the same tartan as a waistband on your dress, or tie your wedding bouquet.

Decoration
We LOVE bunting – and tartan bunting is perfect for a Scottish themed wedding. You could also add a touch of tartan with table covers, table runners, napkins, chair sashes or bows into your table settings and wedding favours.

Cakes
You can’t have a tartan wedding without incorporating the theme into your wedding cake. The perfect solution is to add a tartan ribbon by matching the groom’s kilt or suit or just bring a little taste of Scotland to the occasion by adding a thistle and draping it with tartan ribbon around it.

Flowers
Wrap strips of your family tartan (or just a favourite tartan) around the stems of your bridal bouquet The big winner here is buttonholes – these look beautiful wrapped in tartan with some flowers and greenery that compliment the colours in the fabric. Additionally, use tartan bows to secure flowers to the end of pews or around the venue – simple but stunning.

Traditions
The exchange of a luckenbooth (a token of love) or clan tartans (otherwise known as sashing) and the handfasting ceremony are just a few Scottish traditions that continue today.

Location
The location of your big day is indeed a big decision to make, especially if you are having a Scottish-themed wedding!
Glenburn Lodge celebrates all that & more. It has a way of capturing your heart forever, where the mountains kiss the water, the vivid and lush greenery, (some) misty mornings and open expanses of untouched countryside.

As we get transported to bonny Scotland….uhm Glenburn Lodge no Scottish wedding could possibly be complete without a bagpipe.
