THE LATEST COFFEE TREND
Dalgona coffee is the in thing at present and taking the social media and main stream media by storm. Would you like to join the hype – we will show you how Dalgona coffee is pretty, it tastes even better, and it is probably the best way to spend some time while you’re at home during the stay-at home COVID19 campaign. The best part about it is that you only need four ingredients. If you have instant coffee, sugar, water and milk, you’re fluffy coffee ready. It’s super simple: mix equal parts coffee, sugar, and hot water, then whip until it turns into a lux and silky thick creamy foam. Spoon it on to some iced milk (which is literally just milk with ice in it) You can either cold milk or hot milk as well, it’s all up to you! Alternatively evaporated milk works just as well, either watered down a bit or not.
What is Dalgona coffee?
Essentially Dalgona is fluffy coffee, frothy coffee, whipped coffee or whatever you want to call it. Made with 4 simple ingredients – instant coffee, sugar, hot water and milk. Coffee, sugar and hot water is added into a bowl and whisked until it reaches creamy, velvety and stiff peak status. This whipped coffee is then dolloped onto your choice of cold or warm milk. Done!
The name “Dalgona” originated from an old fashioned Korean street snack, which has a similar taste to honeycomb. The way Dalgona is made sort of resembles the whipped coffee, so a TV personality named the coffee after that.
This velvety, creamy and sweet coffee flavoured drink tastes almost like a frappuccino and I have to say, it’s quite delicious too (and easy to make)! I hope you join the move.
HOW TO MAKE FLUFFY
DALGONA COFFEE
DOLGONA COFFEE RECIPE
Ingredients
2 tbsp instant coffee
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp very hot water
2 glasses milk with ice cubes
Instructions
Bring small pot of water to a boil.
While the water’s coming to a boil, make the Dalgona coffee fluff: In a bowl, mix together the instant coffee and sugar (It works best if you combine the dry ingredients (the instant coffee and sugar) first, then add the water and immediately proceed to the next step. Once the water comes to a boil, carefully add 2 tablespoons of the hot water to the coffee sugar mix and whisk or use a hand mixer and keep whipping until it turns into a coffee-flavored whipped cream/marshmallowy meringue. Fill two glasses with ice and pour in the milk. Use a rubber spatula to spoon the coffee cream into a glass of iced milk.
Garnish with a sprinkling of cocoa powder (optional).
Serve with a straw, and stir, stir, stir to enjoy!
Here are some variations:
Mocha: whip up the Dalgona, but then add 1-2 tablespoons
of cocoa powder and you have a mocha!
Matcha: I’ve seen this on the internet but it uses egg whites,
I will investigate and get back to you.
Maple: use maple syrup instead of sugar for a maple Dalgona
Honey: use honey for a honey Dalgona
Less sugar: you can adjust the sugar content to your preference,
if you like it sweeter, add more sugar, if you think it’s too sweet, add less
Keto: you can use zero calorie sweetener
and drink it over watered down cream instead of milk.
Vegan: use alternative milks like almond, oat, soy, etc.
Caffeine Free: Just use decaf coffee
Hot: Yep, you can have this hot or iced, whichever you prefer!
